Free Weekly Patterns From The Fiber House

February 11th 2018
Please Note:

After some consideration and for a couple of reasons, this will be the last week for these free patterns.
With the proliferation of spam messages
and hacking of email accounts, many of the email servers now
block messages containing links and a lot of our messages have been rejected.
Secondly, although I have
tried not to infringe on any copyright laws, many designers do not wish to have their designs distributed
without their knowledge.
This does limit the patterns that I can offer to you. Therefore, rather than continue this
service I encourage all of you to check out the numerous
online resources available for knitters and crocheters. A few
of my favorites have been mentioned before including Ravelry.com and Knitty.com and most of
our yarn companies
have free patterns available on their websites. We keep a large binder of free patterns at the store
and we will
always be able to assist you in finding online resources.

Week 7

Crochet - Rock Them Socks

You probably know by now that I love socks, and never wear anything but my hand knit or crocheted socks.
Since we just received some new sock yarn from Schoppel Wolle I thought it was a perfect time to feature
some sock patterns.  The new yarn include some new colors of Zauberball Crazy, a fingering weight version
of Starke 6, and Zauberball Cotton, a brand new yarn in 100% cotton.

The knit pattern is from the online knitting magazine Knitty.com.  Kitty is a great source for some truly
awesome patterns and they have featured some really cool designers. Follow the link below to check out these
gorgeous socks from Mary Hull.

Knit - Stellen

The crochet socks are slippers worked in tapestry crochet.  The directions use the UK terminology so the DC in the pattern.

Week 6

Knit - Starry Night Doily Pattern

Crochet - Mandala Doily

One of challenges this year is for crocheted mandalas. I haven’t research the reason behind the name, but
basically these are just colorful crochets motifs - think granny squares gone wild.  Generally multiple
colors are used and the motifs can be square, round, octagonal, or whatever the designer wants. So what do
you do with a mandala? Just about anything you want - they can be made with thread or yarn so you can use
them as doilies, hot pads, trivets, sun catchers, or sew them together for afghans, purses, shawls, etc.
Although these are generally crocheted, you can also knit them.  Just take any knit doily pattern and change
colors every one or two round or where the design makes sense. Both of this week’s patterns use thread but
don’t let that stop you.  These are actually a great way to use up bits and pieces of left overs from your
stash. The knit doily is a vintage pattern.

Week 5

Knit - Boot Toppers

Crochet - Mary and Jenna Bootcuff

Although I’ve sent out other patterns for boot toppers before, these are really
popular so you can never have too many.  The knit pair are a fair-isle design
using Brown Sheep’s Lana Boucle.  This easy fair-isle pattern is a great way to
learn this technique on a small project.  The crochet pattern is a simple rib
design using a sport weight yarn.  The pattern is courtesy of Yellow Ribbon
designers found on Ravelry.

Week 4

Knit - Selbu Modern

Crochet - Dress and Hat

I love fair isle patterns and this week’s knit pattern is a fair isle hat.  The pattern uses a
fingering weight yarn and any of our sock yarns would work, but Berroco’s Ultra Alpaca Light  or
Juniper Moon Farms’ Herriott Fine would make a beautiful warm hat and then you could knit mittens
to go with it.  The crochet pattern is a two-for one and include a dress and hat using SMC’s
Catania. Although the hat is not pictured in the pattern you can see it at 6958 Dress and Hat
